Imported tires marketed in Indonesia must comply with SNI requirements when the products are included in a category subject to mandatory SNI implementation. These requirements cover new pneumatic rubber tires and require conformity with applicable requirements before the products are marketed domestically. Under trade regulations, imported tires are also subject to requirements related to SPPT-SNI and the Goods Registration Number (NPB).

What Is SNI Certification for Imported Tires?

Certification is carried out through a Product Certification Body (LSPro) or Conformity Assessment Body (LPK) with an appropriate scope for the product. LPKs issuing certificates for products subject to mandatory SNI must be accredited by KAN or appointed by the relevant ministry or technical institution and registered in accordance with applicable provisions.
For imported products, information in the SPPT-SNI or certificate of conformity must include at least the identity of the importer or representative company in Indonesia, the name and address of the factory, the product brand and type, the SNI number and title, and other certification information according to the applicable certification scheme.
Requirements for SNI Certification of Imported Tires
Certification requirements must be adjusted to the type of tire, applicable standard, and certification scheme used. Companies need to ensure that all certification documents are consistent with the products to be imported and marketed.

Product Identification

The importer should also verify the HS Code, brand, type, size, construction, and manufacturing facility. This identification is important because these details will be used in certification and import documentation.
Document Preparation
After identifying the product and overseas factory, the company prepares administrative and technical documents.
Documents generally required include:
- Importer NIB and legal documents.
- Overseas manufacturer and factory address information.
- Appointment letter from the brand principal or overseas factory where required.
- Product specifications and tire type list.
- Quality system and manufacturing process documentation.

For certification schemes that require it, an audit or assessment is conducted at the overseas factory. The audit verifies that the factory’s manufacturing process and quality system are capable of consistently producing products that comply with SNI requirements.
For imported products, the overseas factory location is an important consideration in certification planning because it may affect the schedule and requirements for conducting the assessment.
SPPT SNI Issuance
After the required documents, test results, and assessments have successfully met the applicable requirements, the LSPro may issue the SPPT-SNI or certificate of conformity according to the applicable scheme.
The SPPT-SNI then becomes an important document for fulfilling trade requirements for imported tires. After obtaining the required certificate, the importer also needs to register the NPB according to the applicable procedure. The Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Compliance states that new NPB registration is conducted electronically through OSS and, when complete and correct documents are received, issuance takes a maximum of three working days.
Import Requirements for Tires After Obtaining SNI
Having an SPPT-SNI does not necessarily mean that the entire import process has been completed. Importers must still fulfill the applicable trade requirements for tires.
Under the provisions listed for tires under HS heading 40.11, Import Approval requirements may include SPPT-SNI and NPB. For API-U importers, additional requirements include an appointment letter from the brand principal or overseas factory that has been authenticated in accordance with applicable provisions.
Because import regulations may change, companies should check the latest requirements based on the product’s HS Code before shipment from the country of origin. This is important to ensure that SNI, NPB, and import documentation can be prepared together.
How Long Does SNI Certification for Imported Tires Take?
